Dog Training for People… and their dogs!
Looking for personalized one on one training?
My approach to dogs and dog training is comprehensive. Who lives in the home? Who is the primary caretaker? Are there other dogs or other animals in the household? Where does the dog sleep? How and when and what is the dog eating? All of these are crucial to having a well-adjusted, well-mannered dog that is rewarding to live with.
It is extremely important to set the dog up for success. It is just as important to set the humans up for success, too. The foundation of this success lies at home, as this is where the dog is most likely to spend the majority of their time. That also makes home the least distracting environment in which to practice, setting the dog and the humans up to succeed.
I use obedience training as a tool to help you and your dogs live well with each other. I teach you to use it as a guide to help you communicate to your dog what behavior you are expecting from them. Dogs love structure. Dogs want to know what the rules are for every social situation. Dogs need to know how to behave. It is up to us to give them the courtesy of telling them how to behave.
As humans, we use words, verbal language, as our primary form of communication. We also use body language to get our messages across to other humans. Think about being in a foreign country whose language you do not speak, when you realize you can’t understand what is being spoken. Most of us begin to use our hands, our arms, and even our whole bodies to get our message across.
Dogs primary form of communication is body language. It is very similar to the body language we all use subconsciously, some of us are better than others at reading it and using it, dogs vary greatly to this extent as well.
